Our GYSD activityWe had an enjoyable GYSD event on April 13. From many different activities we decided to do the happiest and the most remarcable for our students. The 8th form students shared their knowledge and experience with the 2nd form students. The main purposes of this activity were to support cultural exchange and students' ability of practicing English and its symbols; to empower the youngsters' motivation through learning more about English-speaking countries and its traditions from other students. The final result of this activity was to teach the students to colaborate and cooperate in a multi-level team, to be tolerant and to express compassion where it is needed, to support leadership and encourage students in doing a team work. First of all we have discussed about holidays and about Easter in particular. We discussed about its symbols and how Englishmen greet each other on this holiday. Then we created small teams of 2 or 3 students. Each team had one 8th form student who was their "mini-teacher". The mini-teachers had to come up with some examples of Easter cards that represented visual aids for their "pupils". The 8th form students together with their teachers provided all the materials needed for this activity: coloured paper and carton, scissors, glue sticks, coloured pencils and felt-tip pens, ready-made examples of Easter cards. The activity was very positive, entertaining and knowledgeable. The teachers provided safe enviromnent and gender equality. Students had a great pleasure working together. The homework for 2nd form students consists in giving students' card to their moms and to wish them "Happy Easter". Coming back from their Easter holidays their will share with us their mothers' opinions. Here are some pictures from our GYSD event :) Planning GYSDOur students had many ideas how to celebrate GYSD, but then we decided to encourage the young students in learning English, exchanging the 8th form students' knowledge and experience. 1. The 8th form students will teach the 2nd form to make Easter Cards using the symbols and greeting words relevant to English-speaking countries. 2. They will choose one example of card they would like to presents to their young learners. 3. The teacher together with the 8th form students will help the 2nd form students providing all the necessary materials. 4. We will choose the date of organizing this activity.
Make the changeThis is the poster our students have done. They have the wish to be the change in our town :)
I am very glad that we continue celebrating GYSD. There are great opportunities to make a change in our world. That is why I propose you to begin with our town or even with our school or neighbours. This year our team is bigger and we invite here our young students from the 2nd form, who will participate with the 8th form in this amazing project.
